Ms. Lemire, currently a senior at the University of New Hampshire, will graduate in May 2007 with a degree in Biochemistry. Mr. Doherty, a freshman at New England College, plans to study criminal justice or psychology. "This [scholarship] means a lot to me," explains Mr. Doherty, "because in the upcoming school year my family will have two in college."

Over $23,000 has been awarded since the Granite State Telephone scholarship program was founded in 1994. The scholarships, awarded on academic merit and financial need, are administered by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. To be eligible, candidates must reside in one of the following towns within Granite State Telephone's serving area: Chester, East Deering, Hillsborough Upper Village, Sandown, Washington, Weare or Windsor. Applicants must be planning to enroll in an undergraduate program at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational school within the United States.
