Granite State Telephone Educates Students
on the Telecommunications Industry

WEARE, NH — June 27, 2006 — Granite State Telephone (GST) participated in Weare Middle School's Career Day on June 13, 2006. Presenting on behalf of GST were Heather Lovejoy, human resources administrator, and Gary Wilson, technical operations supervisor.

Mrs. Lovejoy talked to the students about the responsibilities of her position in Human Resources. She discussed the high-level of confidentiality in her position as she maintains the company's personnel records. She also discussed the types of skills and education that are a prerequisite for her position.

Mr. Wilson explained the responsibilities of his position in Network Operations as supervisor of the construction and installation/maintenance technicians. It's his job to make sure that service orders and any service outages are handled in a timely manner. He discussed the responsibilities of the construction technicians which include setting and replacing telephone poles and running cables into new housing developments. He also talked about the responsibilities of the installation/maintenance technicians which include installing telephone and high-speed Internet service; maintaining GST's telecommunications infrastructure consisting of all outside plant up to a customer's network interface device; and responding to customer issues that require service repairs.

Over 25 other local businesses took part in the school's career day activities. The day is designed to give students a greater understanding of the many different career paths open to them.
